Reviews & Scores
Bernard opened a 2001 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre because it was a botrytized year like the 2013. It has a strong petrol character on the nose and I agree with Isabelle Raveneau that there is an Alsace Riesling-inspired personality here. The palate is well-balanced and fresh with wonderful acidity, slightly viscous with a Saar-like intensity on the finish and a hint of wild mushroom on the aftertaste. God invented Chardonnay for wines like this. It is drinking perfectly now. - WA

Ripe and now distinctly exotic aromas of orchard fruits and appealing spice undertones nunaced by hints of botrytis lead to rich, powerful and sappy flavors that possess fine acidity and an underlying sense of minerality, all wrapped in a palate staining finish that delivers excellent length. While this will certainly continue to age well, I don't see much more improvement in the offing and for my taste, I would suggest drinking this now and over the next 10 years. - BH

Fine expression in this Chablis. It's ripe and focused, evoking lemon, mineral and even red berry aromas and flavors, picking up a hint of vanilla on the finish. It's balanced, without the intensity of the '02s. (BS) - WS
